Hello! My name is Armine  Kocharyan from Yerevan, Armenia. I was born in 1986. At the age of three I got hard flue and it was fatal to my life, because it left me with a serious illness called 4th grade sensorineural deafness. The only salvation was a Cochlear implantation, but because of  lack of financial resources I was only Cochlear-implanted at the age of nineteen. Until then I used hearing aids which, of course, helped me, but not too much. So I experienced the clear hearing only after many years with my Cochlear Implant.

There was one “bad” side of the implant: I had to bear an SP with a bag to which I couldn’t get used to at all. It was a pity to pass through all the hard way to get an implant and don’t feel it’s presence in my life. The SP with a bag caused me many problems, it wasn’t convenient and I was having terrible headaches, even after fittings it didn’t work properly. So, a whole year implantation meant nothing to me until I met Dr. Monika Lehnhardt (President of Prof. Ernst Lehnhardt Foundation) in July, 2012, who donated 3G Sprint SPs, which were much smaller, convenient and worked fine. It brought me back to normal hearing.

I thought that nothing better could happen in my life, but only one year later I received my second upgrade from Prof. Ernst Lehnhardt Foundation, Freedom SP, which gives me even better hearing. I can hear lower noises with it, my reaction on them is much better now. Freedom helped me to respond phone calls which I could not do before.

Of course, it was a challenge, but we managed, me and my Freedom SP.

Many thanks to all people who worked on this project and provided CI recipients in Armenia with “new” SPs.Armineh KocharyanNarrated by Armine Kocharyan
