Hello, my name is Armineh Gevorgyan, I am Sirvard Melkonyan’s Mom. We live in Echmiadzin, Armenia.
Sirvard was born on the 13th of April, 2002. When she was 7 months old we noticed that she did not react to noises at all. It was a real shock for our family and we suffered a lot because of the fact that she could be totally deaf. We took her to Erebouni Medical Center and after a long examination we were given the diagnosis, 4th grade sensorineural hearing loss.
There was a solution for our little lovely daughter to overcome her hearing impairment, but unfortunately a very expensive one, a Cochlear Implantation.

I am very happy that there are still people who are not indifferent to kids with disabilities. The clinic helped us to find a donor for Sirvard and she was cochlear implanted on the 19th of June, 2005.
We thought that now everything was solved for our sweetheart but problems started when she entered the world of sounds. We needed to attend therapy sessions three to four times a week and from time to time needed to buy some spare parts for the speech processor, and still have to, which all cost a lot of money. We hardly made both ends meet in the family. We should change her speech processor after 5 years, but we definitely did not have money for that. I was very attentive and took good care of her device. As a result she managed to use her SP for 7 years.
After that we personally got a “new” SP from Dr. Monika Lehnhardt, the President of the Prof. Ernst Lehnhardt Foundation, in July, 2012. That day I felt the same as on the day of Sirvard’s first fitting.
Sirvard has a brother. He helped her a lot to develop speech. She already had great results when she went to school with her brother. They were both in the same group.
When she got her upgrade speech processor she was in her second class. Her teacher Mrs. Aghabekyan noticed a huge difference in her speech with the upgrade SP.
When we told about the amounts of money already donated in favour of our daughter, people were quite surprised hearing about such kind people doing charity.
Her teacher wanted me to cite her contribution to this story: “I am very sorry that Sirvard was born deaf, but I am also happy that she hears that well with her CI. She is good at maths and paints very well. She only cannot manage to write dictations yet, but we are working on it very hard. I love her very much. She is a very strong personality and learned to fight for everything, which will definitely help her to get success in her life. Thank you for helping children that much giving them a chance to integrate into the society. ”
I am sure Sirvard will meet her teacher’s expectations.sirvard Melkonyan Narrated by Armineh Gevorgyan, Sirvard´s Mom
